Response To Light

After another couple of weeks of work I have finally finished my workbench. It always amazes me how much time it takes to “finish” a project. I planed. I sanded. I scraped. I installed the front and tail vises. I put on 5 coats of poly with a 220 sanding in between. I also attached it to the bottom structure. I added Cherry Grips to the vises and made Ebony bench dogs. Altogether they make a nice contrast.

I bought one of the vises from Busy Bee Tools and the other is a Mastercraft Vise from Canadian Tire. Both have quick releases and more importantly neither was overly expensive. I would venture to say this bench cost me roughly $250 to build which is a bargain considering its functionality.

Once I was done I instantly wanted to build another one! There are quite a few things that I could do better given that I’ve now done this once. More than likely I will keep this for a couple of years until I get the wood to build my ultimate workbench.

Take that whatever way you will

As I have already mentioned, my webserver was hacked just before I left for Mazatlan. And while I spent some time working on this before I left, I only port restricted access to my site (meaning I didn’t fully deal with the element that is still on my machine). I fully expected my site to go down again while I was away.

Anyway, I know the IP addresses and IRC channel that the bot was communicating with and it should be interesting to deal with this when I get home.

I have written a ton of woodworking articles while sitting by the pool. And I will have a pretty cool entry about our trip - including pictures - when we get home.

PS - Tamara I know you wanted more gossip but the only thing that comes to mind is watching a kid about the age of Joel - with the same sort of personality to match - hit on Lynne. Sort of funny but not really gossip worthy. Maybe next time….

If you have come to the site over the last week or so and noticed it’s been down, this is the reason. I’m in the process increasing security and plugging holes on my server. This is not the first time I have been hacked. Mostly it’s annoying. Keep in mind that this can happen to you!
